Symmetry Duo presents World Premier of Paul Patterson's "Cantonese Image" (World Harp Congress)

The Cantonese Images was commissioned by the Symmetry Harp Duo for the World Harp Congress with funds from the Tanza Trust. It consists of three movements.
The piece combines various traditional Cantonese melodies and harmony mixed with contemporary harp techniques. Each movement is inspired by a Cantonese children song which are very meaningful to the harpist Ching Man Ho and Lok Man Ho when they were young.

A musical afternoon themed around the life of the maligned Marie-Antoinette. Although badly educated, music was her passion. Not only could she read music, but she could sing and play the clavichord. The harp was her favorite instrument and her teacher was Philippe Joseph Hinner. Marie Antoinette would often play lullabies on the harp to soothe her son. Her patronage also brought many celebrated musicians to the French court. Through a selection of 18th-century songs-including two composed by the queen herself-- we hope to illuminate different aspects of her life neglected in popular culture, and tell a story of a gifted music-lover, as well as a devoted sister and mother.

一場匯聚香港跨界藝術精英、近年罕見的龐大史詩式原創音樂盛事，誠然是本屆藝術節的驚喜與亮點。
室內歌劇《蕭紅》和《大同》得獎作曲家陳慶恩，與導演黎海寧及指揮廖國敏再度攜手，挑戰歷史題材，更顯宏大氣魄。此次更請來三位新晉作曲家加盟，台上雲集逾百位本地菁英歌唱家、合唱團及樂師，以音樂、歌唱、影像、文學詩歌以至流行文化、音樂，帶你漫遊這個百年經歷過殖民及後殖民時代的東方之珠。
陳慶恩將聯同曾與倫敦室樂團合作的鄺展維、曾獲香港作曲家聯會作曲家比賽冠軍的李家泰，及曾於美國及意大利作曲比賽奪冠的盧定彰，從十九世紀末至今日的香港詩歌，本土的南音與客家山歌，及廣東粵語流行曲擷取靈感，編撰一氣呵成的多首音樂作品，以清唱劇的音樂形式，譜出屬於香港的聲音。
前費城樂團助理指揮廖國敏帶領音樂演出，傑出編舞及藝術貢獻獎得主黎海寧將音樂化成舞台美學，獻唱南音和客家山歌的歌者、蜚聲國際的女高音鄺勵齡、男中音林俊及多位年青歌唱家與演奏家、香港浸會大學室內合唱團、葉氏兒童合唱團、香港創樂團及龢鳴樂坊等逾百個藝術家傾力演出，還有流行樂壇神秘嘉賓特別客串，陣容鼎盛；聆聽世紀，見證香港。
